The Katsina State Police Command has foiled an attempt to disrupt Eid-el-Kabir celebrations in Musawa Local Government Area and arrested six suspects linked to a violent attack on residents of Keku community.

The Command’s spokesman, DSP Abubakar Sadiq-Aliyu, disclosed this in a statement issued in Katsina.

According to him, operatives of the command’s Village Crime Reduction Unit (VCRU) swiftly responded to the incident, which occurred on Wednesday at about 2pm.

Sadiq-Aliyu said the police acted on reports that a group of hoodlums had attacked residents with sticks and machetes.

He said the attack left several villagers with varying degrees of injuries before security operatives intervened and restored normalcy in the area.

“Items recovered from the suspects include machetes, sticks and motorcycles allegedly used during the attack,” the police spokesman said.

He added that preliminary investigations indicated that the suspects conspired to breach public peace and disrupt the relative calm being enjoyed in the area ahead of the Eid-el-Kabir celebration.

According to him, the prompt intervention of VCRU operatives prevented the situation from escalating further.
He said the injured victims were taken to a nearby hospital and were responding to treatment. (NAN)
