The Delta State Police Command has launched a manhunt for Chief Jerry Nkeeshe, the Owelle of Onicha-Olona, and members of an armed group over an alleged attack that led to the death of three youths in the state.

The Command, in a statement signed by its spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, said the incident occurred in Okwe community when the chief allegedly led a group of vigilantes and suspected cult members—disguised in Army camouflage—to a parcel of land.

According to the police, the group attempted to lay claim to the property by enforcing an unauthorised quit notice without a court order. Their operation was resisted by some youths, leading to a confrontation during which the group allegedly opened fire.

Three youths were injured in the attack and were later confirmed dead while receiving treatment at the hospital.

The Commissioner of Police, Olufemi Abaniwonda, has deployed specialised investigators to track, identify, and arrest everyone involved. He condemned the incident as an unprovoked, reckless and brazen act of lawlessness that would not be tolerated.
