Five suspected kidnappers have been arrested by the Kwara State Police Command as crackdown on their networks intensified.
Various firearms and ammunition were also recovered in the coordinated operations across the state.
According to the command’s spokesperson, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the operation followed credible intelligence and involved the Anti-Kidnapping Team working alongside local vigilantes and forest guards.
“The joint team stormed Oke-Iya community, where three suspects, Idris Umar, Muhammed Usman and Abdullahi Abubakar, were apprehended in connection with a recent attack on Idiya community, during which five persons were abducted.
“Preliminary findings revealed that two of the kidnapped victims had earlier escaped from captivity before the suspects were tracked and arrested,” she noted.
Adetoun added that further investigations led to the arrest of two additional suspects identified as Mohammad Awal and Sani Mallam Musa, who were allegedly linked to the same kidnapping operation.
“Security operatives also recovered arms during the raid, including a locally fabricated revolver rifle adapted to fire AK-47 ammunition, as well as eight rounds of live AK-47 bullets,” she said.
The police command said investigations were ongoing to uncover wider connections and possible accomplices.
