The Delta State Police Command says it has dismantled a robbery gang and apprehended one of its members in the state.
The spokesman for the command, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed this in a statement made available to newsmen in Warri on Wednesday.
Edafe said that assorted weapons were recovered from the suspect at a hideout in the Otorwhodo community, Ughelli North Local Government Area of the state.
He noted that the suspect was arrested on Sunday by operatives of the CP Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT).
According to him, the police team was led by ASP Julius Robinson, following credible information regarding the activities of the suspect and his gang.
“The police team, acting on credible and actionable intelligence, launched a swift and coordinated raid on a criminal hideout at the Otorwhodo neighborhood in Ughelli North. The operation resulted in the arrest of the suspect, while other members of the gang fled.
“A search conducted on the suspect led to the recovery of: one dane gun, 10 rounds of live cartridges, two locally fabricated Beretta pistols, and 11 rounds of live ammunition,” he said.
Edafe added that the suspect made useful confessional statements during preliminary investigations.
According to the spokesperson, the suspect admitted to his involvement in a series of armed robbery incidents within Ekredjebor, Olu Ave, Winners Road, and other locations within the Ughelli metropolis.
