The Gombe State Police Command has dismantled a notorious armed robbery syndicate operating in the Pindiga District of Akko Local Government Area, recovering sophisticated weapons and ammunition in the process.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, disclosed this in a statement, noting that the suspects were arrested on Jan. 29 at about 2 pm following actionable intelligence.
He stated that six suspects were apprehended, while one remains at large.
According to the police, the gang was linked to an armed attack carried out in December 2025 on a resident whose identity has been withheld for security reasons.
“The victim was attacked at about 2:30 am in his residence by Babangida Gamji and three accomplices. They assaulted him with a rifle and a cutlass and attempted to dispossess him of his motorcycle,” the statement said.
Although the victim managed to escape, the suspects later contacted him via telephone, issued threats, and demanded a ransom of N650,000, which he was forced to pay to avoid further harm. Following a formal complaint, detectives commenced a thorough investigation, leading to the arrest of the principal suspect and five other members of the syndicate.
DSP Abdullahi added that during the operation, the police recovered one pump-action rifle, one locally fabricated LAR rifle, 12 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition, one live cartridge, a cutlass, and N227,000 in cash.
The suspects are currently in custody undergoing further investigation, after which they will be charged to court.
