The Yobe State Police Command says it has dismantled a syndicate involved in stealing tricycles and selling them as scrap, arresting two suspects while another remains at large.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, said the operation followed a complaint on April 21 by Goni Kemi of Kukareta village, Damaturu, who reported the theft of his yellow tricycle with registration number 5330 DTR along Maiduguri Road.
Acting on intelligence, operatives of B Division carried out a targeted operation on Saturday, leading to the recovery of the stolen tricycle, which had already been dismantled.
One Ali Mallam Ibrahim of Don-Etiebiet Housing Estate, Damaturu, was arrested and reportedly confessed to buying the tricycle from another suspect, Ibrahim Umar of Pompomari ward, who was also apprehended.
Another suspect, identified as Alhaji Ali from Dapchi, is said to be currently on the run.
The police said the case is under investigation and will be charged to court upon conclusion.
The Commissioner of Police, Usman Kanfani Jibrin, commended the operatives and urged residents to continue providing useful information to support crime-fighting efforts.
