Operatives of the Delta State police command have arrested some suspected kidnappers and armed robbers and recovered firearms and ammunition.

The operation, spearheaded by the Commissioner of Police (CP), Special Assignment Team, extended beyond the state, resulting in major breakthroughs in Rivers, Kogi, and Delta states.

The police, in a statement in Asaba by the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edge said, “ On March 26, 2025, operatives led by ASP Julius Robinson, tracked down a suspected kidnapper, Chedeye Mohammed, to a hideout in Rivers State. Following his arrest, Mohammed confessed to being part of a gang terrorizing Ughelli, Agbarho, and other parts of Delta State while using Rivers State as a base.

“He later led officers to a concealed stash of weapons in a bush near a trailer park, where one AK-47 rifle loaded with 13 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition was recovered.

“In another raid in Kogi State, police operatives, acting on credible intelligence, stormed Anyangba town in Dekina Local Government Area, leading to the arrest of three suspected armed robbers and gun runners. The suspects, identified as Zakari Mohammed (31), Ibrahim Mumuni (29), and Mohammed Hamisu (25), were found in possession of an AK-47 rifle and an automatic pump-action gun. Further investigations led to the arrest of another suspect, Samaila Mohammed (35), in the

Udo community, where officers recovered a Beretta pistol loaded with three rounds of live ammunition and cartridges. The suspects remain in custody as investigations continue.

“Similarly, in Isoko South Local Government Area, officers arrested one Emu Lucky, a 35-year-old native of Igbide community, for allegedly supplying ammunition to suspected kidnappers.

“A search of his residence in the Olomoro community led to the recovery of 82 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition. Preliminary findings revealed that Lucky was working closely with a notorious suspect, Mohammed Bellow, who is already in police custody. Bello reportedly acted as a middleman between gun suppliers and kidnapping syndicates.’’
