The Sokoto state police command has advised motorists to be security conscious in view of the rampant cases of car theft in the state.

The state Commissioner of Police, Alhaji Abdulkadir Muhammad, ‎gave the advice while speaking at a dinner organised by coalition of non-governmental organisations in Sokoto.

He described the development as worrisome ,adding that it would be tackled with the support of vehicles owners.

"We have been receiving reports of car theft and car snatching especially at the premises of the main branch of the First bank," he said.

He however advised motorists to install a tracking device in their cars or use  pedal locks which he noted were cheaper and very effective.

The Police Commissioner also urged them to be watchful of who come near their vehicles.

He assured that the police would not relent in curbing the situation.

Muhammad who was represented by the Assistant Commissioner in charge of Operations, Mr Anene Innocent, said the police would continue to count on the support of NGOs to maintain peace in Sokoto state.

The chairman of the coalition, Ibrahim Shuni said NGOs and other civil societies in the state have succeeded in transforming a reasonable number of people in the state and in assisting the state to develop policies that would strenghten good governance.

In his remarks, the Commissioner for Solid Minerals, Bello Goronyo described NGOs as whistle blowers and voice of the voiceless.
