Police confirm 11 persons dead in road accident

 

The Kebbi State Police Command has confirmed the death of 11 persons involved in a road accident along Koko-Yauri Road in the state.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Nafiu Abubakar, in a release, also confirmed that 25 others sustained injuries in the accident and they are being treated at Shanga General Hospital in the state.

He said a Volvo DAF truck with registration number KWA 230 SKK, driven by one Alhaji Sule was involved in the accident while on its way from Sokoto to Ibadan in Oyo State with passengers and bags of beans.

“It (the vehicle) was coming from Sokoto to Ibadan, Oyo State, but on reaching Giron Masa village at Shanga area of Kebbi, the driver lost control and it somersaulted and 11 of the passengers died on the spot,” he said.

He said when police received a report of the accident, a team of policemen from Shanga Division were dispatched to the scene and evacuated the victims to the General Hospital in Shanga where a doctor confirmed 11 of them dead. He added that 25 of the passengers who sustained injuries are still being treated at the hospital.
