The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has dismissed reports of an alleged kidnapping incident at Phase 1 Primary School, Gbagalape area of Abuja, describing it as a false alarm.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, said officers attached to the Nyanya Division responded to a distress call at about 10.30am on June 4, 2026, alleging an ongoing kidnapping at the school.

She said the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Nyanya Division immediately deployed officers and surveillance teams to the school to verify the report.

According to the police, preliminary investigations revealed that some students had suddenly started shouting “kidnappers” and running out of the school premises, causing panic among teachers and residents of the community.

“The school premises were cordoned off and thoroughly searched by responding officers,” the statement said.

Adeh stated that extensive searches and questioning of persons within and around the school did not establish any kidnapping incident.

“Following extensive search and questioning of persons within and around the school premises, no kidnapping incident was established, no suspect was sighted, and no victim was identified,” she said.

She added that officers also searched surrounding hills, boundaries and adjoining areas, while nearby schools were visited as part of precautionary security measures.

The command urged residents to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information capable of creating unnecessary panic and tension within communities.

The Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, encouraged residents to promptly report suspicious activities and emergencies to the nearest police station or through the command’s emergency lines.
