The police in Edo State have denied a robbery attack at the weekend on Bureau de Change (BDC) operators at the New Benin axis of Benin City which has gone viral in a video.
Spokesperson of the police in the state, SP Chidi Nwanbuzor, explained that the DPO of New Benin received information that hoodlums around the market were shooting sporadically and that he dispatched his men to the scene, but that when the hoodlums sighted the police they ran away.
He said, “But few hours later a certain man called Okechukwu Okeke, a businessman in the area, reported at the station that he and some businessmen at New Benin were robbed of their money and valuables.
“So it was not Bureau de Change operators that were robbed.
Meanwhile, in the viral video, amid gunfire a voice is heard saying that the BDC operators were being robbed.
