The Plateau State Police Command says it has deployed over 8,000 personnel to provide security during the local government election across the 17 local government areas of the state.
Daily Trust reports that the election was scheduled for Wednesday with 11 political parties to participate in the exercise.
The spokesperson of the state police command, DSP Alabo Alfred, disclosed this on Tuesday at the command headquarters during the deployment of officers to various local government areas.
Alfred assured that officers would arrive at their polling units on time to ensure a smooth electoral process, adding that “police are committed to maintaining law and order, guaranteeing the safety of voters, and preventing any potential disruptions”.

“To achieve this, the police have strategic plans in place, including deploying sufficient personnel to polling units and establishing communication networks for real-time situation monitoring,” he said.
The police spokesperson warned individuals planning to cause trouble to desist from doing so, saying the police would not tolerate electoral violence.
