When Oodua Trust visited the abattoir last week, the armoured personnel carrier was seen with some armed policemen battle-ready to quell any uprising.

The Lagos State Commissioner for Agriculture and Cooperative, Chief Enoch Ajiboso, at a press conference last Monday had announced the government’s directive, banning motor bike riders and rickety vehicles from carrying meat from the abattoir to any part of the state.

According to Ajiboso, “motorcycles are meant to carry human beings and not to transport meat meant for consumption from place to place, which is completely unhygienic.”

He said any butcher aiding the use of motorcycles or rickety vehicles to transport meat from the abattoir would be seriously dealt with.
