The police in Niger State have arrested six suspects for allegedly stealing a 300 KVA transformer along Kaduna Road.

This is contained in a statement by the command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, issued on Saturday in Minna.

According to Abiodun, on August 20, at about 9 pm, credible intelligence was received at the Maje Division about one Mustapha Haladu, 28, of Kaduna Road.

Haladu and his accomplice, Abubakar Ibrahim, 26, of the same area, were allegedly planning to dispose of a stolen 300 KVA transformer that night.  (NAN|)

On receiving the information, the Divisional Police Officer of the Maje Division mobilized his patrol team and intensified surveillance around the location.

At about 4 a.m. on August 21, officers intercepted a yellow truck with registration number GWA 850 XD carrying the transformer, which was driven by Aliyu Sadi, 32.

Haladu and Ibrahim were also in the vehicle, escorting the item from Akilbu village, Kaduna State. They could not provide any document proving ownership of the transformer, the statement added.

According to the police, a preliminary investigation revealed they planned to dismantle and sell the transformer in parts. Three other accomplices were later arrested in connection with the crime.

They were identified as Isya Yusha’u, 28, Usama Abdullahi, 20, and Usman Suleiman, 25, all residents of Kaduna Road. (NAN)
