Police dock 6 for allegedly snatching gun from officer

The Gombe State Police Command has arraigned six men before a chief magistrate’s court for allegedly robbing a superintendent of police (SP) of his gun.

Court documents said the accused persons, Saidu Adamu, alias Dujjal, 35, Hamza Isah, 33, Kanno Dari, 30, Musa Amadu, 30, Ibrahim Mohammed, alias Yellow, 30, and Mobi Ori, 20, conspired with one Alhaji Musa and Bappa Gombe all now at large, armed themselves with guns, knives and machetes, and blocked a part of the federal highway from Gombe to Yola.

They allegedly robbed SP Ali Obed Masoyi, attached to the Counter Terrorism Unit, Yola, of his serving pistol, a Beretta, with 13 rounds of live ammunition, and the sum of N60, 000.

The court heard that the accused persons also robbed one Engineer Emmanuel Nicholas of his mobile phones valued at N75,000 and smoked fish and an unspecified amount of money. They also allegedly robbed one Danjuma Hamma Adama of the sum of N800, 000.

The police prosecutor, Inspector Habibu Danjuma, said when the accused were arrested, one AK47 rifle, three magazines, 70 round of live ammunition and the pistol were found with them.

All the accused pleaded guilty to the three-count charge contained in the police First Information Report (FIR).

Chief Magistrate Japhet Maida granted the application of the prosecution for adjournment to ensure the arrest of other suspects and adjourned the case to December 11. He ordered that the suspects be remanded in prisons.
