The police in Lagos on Monday arraigned four women, including a pregnant woman, Cassandra Agborua, 22, over the alleged theft of jewelries valued at N5.2 million.
The other women are Feyikemi Kazeem, 39; Veronica Sam, 36; and Barbara Nzekwe, all said to be former members of staff of Azarai Jewelry, Limited, the complainant.
Police prosecutor, Haruna Ibrahim, alleged that the suspects committed the offence between July and October 2018 at No. 23, Opebi Road, Ikeja, Lagos and Centro Mall, Admiralty Way, Lekki, Lagos.
The suspects pleaded with Magistrate Aro-Lambo not to send them on remand to Kirikiri Prison. They begged the magistrate to rather remand them at the Zone 2 police headquarters.
But the court ordered that the women be remanded in prison custody, while Agborua was released to her senior sister, who was present in court, because of her pregnancy.
The court fixed further hearing for November 29, 2018.
