Police operatives in Rivers State have rescued Mathew John Zephaniah from a kidnappers’ den in Agbo-Nchia Forest, Oyigbo Local Government Area of the state.
Daily Trust gathered that Mr. Zephaniah had been held by the hoodlums in the forest for days, with a ransom expected.
Police operatives from tactical units and divisions within the Oyigbo Area Command, in collaboration with OSPAC local vigilante groups, stormed the forest and successfully rescued the victim.
Rivers State Police spokesperson, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, disclosed in a statement on Wednesday in Port Harcourt that the kidnappers opened fire upon sighting the police operatives.
She confirmed that the victim was debriefed and reunited with his family.
