Some operatives of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command have engaged suspected robbers in a shoot out and recovered some stolen vehicles in Lugbe, Abuja.

FCT Police Commissioner, Sunday Babaji, who disclosed this to newsmen in Abuja yesterday, said the operation was carried out by policemen attached to Lugbe Division, who responded swiftly to a distress call of an armed robbery operation at Kapuwa area of Lugbe.

He said the suspected robbers escaped with bullets wounds and abandoned the stolen vehicles after they were overpowered by the superior fire power of the police.

“Upon sighting the gallant and aggressive advancement of the police team, the criminals engaged them in a gun duel but they couldn’t match up with the superior firepower of the team. They retreated with various degrees of injuries while the police recovered every single effect initially removed,” he said.

He listed the recovered stolen items to include, Honda Accord with REG No. BWR778BK, Peugeot 307 with REG NO. MKA496BC, five flat-screen television, eight pairs of shoes, different types and sizes of clothes including a uniform; one mini laptop, four ATM cards, one iPad, one play station with two gaming pads and one apple wristwatch. 

CP Babaji said an aggressive manhunt continues simultaneously with the investigation while the procedure to release the stolen items to the owners has commenced.
