Operatives of the FCT Police Command engaged a four-man armed gang during an attempt to snatch a car in Abuja.
The FCT Commissioner of Police (CP), Miller G Dantawaye, who disclosed this to newsmen on Monday, said the incident happened on Friday around 8pm at the Efab Bridge during the operatives routine stop and search operation.
He said police operatives with the Galadimawa Division encountered the four armed men, and that upon approaching them, the gang opened fire on them while attempting to snatch two vehicles: a Hyundai Elantra (2014 model) with registration number: DKA 776 FW, and a Lexus jeep (2008 model) with registration number: KWL 530 BM.
According to him, the police officers responded promptly and tactically and applied superior firepower which forced the suspects to abandon the vehicles and flee the scene.
“And it was as a result of the pressure mounted by the police, all three vehicles involved in the incident, including the suspects’ operational vehicle, a white coloured Volkswagen vehicle, were all recovered at the scene,” he said.
He, therefore, urged members of the public to remain law-abiding, vigilant and to promptly report any suspicious persons or activities to the nearest police station or through the FCT Police Command’s emergency numbers: 08032003913 and 08028940883.
