The police have found a bag containing ammunition suspected to belong to kidnappers in Tafa LGA of Niger State.
The state command’s spokesman, SP Wasiu Abiodun, in a statement, said that the items found in the bag included one empty AK-47 magazine, two Madsen LAR rifle ammunition, one AK-47 ammunition, a bottle of sewing machine oil, two torchlights, paracetamol, four phone batteries, two bottles of balm, a wallet containing N17,310, a bunch of charms and SIM cards.
Abiodun said, “On 14/09/2024 at about 1300hrs, a police patrol team from the Gauraka Outstation, Tafa LGA, while on routine patrol around the Jibi area, with the combined effort of residents, found a bag suspected to have been abandoned by kidnappers due to the constant and sustained joint patrol and visibility in the communities around Gauraka and Tafa.”
He said the items found were under scrutiny of ballistic and forensic examination, and that the SIM cards were also under investigation with a view to identify and arrest the owners.
He said the police also arrested a 17-year-old boy, Wisdom Danjuma, for allegedly robbing a female POS operator at the Lawu Estate, Bosso Low-Cost, Minna.
Abiodun said the suspect was arrested following a complaint lodged at the Bosso Police Division by the victim on September 13, 2024.
He said, “Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect criminally trespassed to the POS shop, pulled out a long sharp knife, intimidated the attendant and robbed her of the sum of N100,000.
“Consequently, the victim raised the alarm and the suspect took to his heels, but the community members and a police patrol team chased him until he was arrested. The knife and the money were recovered from him and he confessed that he was sent by two other members of his gang.”
