Operatives of the anti-kidnapping unit of the Zamfara State Police Command have foiled a bandits’ attack and rescued five women and children on the Gusau–Dansadau road in Zamfara State.

In a statement on Wednesday, the command’s spokesperson, DSP Yazid Abubakar, said the anti-kidnapping operatives were on a confidence-building patrol along the route when they sighted several distressed motorists and commuters who had been blocked by armed bandits.

He said, “Upon sighting the bandits, the police operatives swiftly engaged them, forcing the criminals to retreat into the bush with possible gunshot injuries and abandon their victims.”

DSP Abubakar explained that the bandits earlier abducted women and children travelling from Wanke to Gusau and were in the process of taking them into the bush before fleeing due to the superior firepower of the police.

The rescued persons were identified as Blessing Emeka, Fatima Saidu, Shamsiya Saidu, Umar Saidu and Bashar Umar, and were promptly given medical attention and were reunited with their families.

The Commissioner of Police (CP), Ibrahim Balarabe Maikaba, reassured residents of the command’s continued commitment to safeguarding lives and property, urging the public to support the police with timely and credible information.
