Operatives of the Katsina State Police Command have foiled a cattle rustling operation, recovering 12 cows and several sheep stolen by suspected armed bandits in Bakori Local Government Area of the state.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, the incident occurred on the night of June 2, 2026, when armed bandits invaded Gidan Dan Maye village along the Gangaren Makurdi–Jargaba axis and rustled 12 cows as well as an unspecified number of sheep.
The police said information about the attack was received at the Bakori Divisional Headquarters at about 11pm, prompting the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) to immediately mobilise operatives to the scene in collaboration with members of the Vigilante Group.
According to the statement, a joint security team reportedly traced the suspects to an area around Gidan Baushe village, where they engaged the bandits in a fierce gun battle.
The statement said the operatives successfully overpowered the attackers through superior tactics and firepower, forcing them to abandon all the stolen animals and flee the scene with suspected gunshot wounds.
“All the rustled animals were successfully recovered and handed over to their rightful owners,” the police stated.
The command added that efforts were ongoing to track down and arrest the fleeing suspects, as well as dismantle the criminal network responsible for the attack.
It further stated that while commending the officers and vigilantes involved in the operation, the Commissioner of Police, Ali Umar Fage, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the state.
