Operatives of the Edo State Police Command have foiled the kidnapping of a driver and two passengers on the Benin-Lagos Road by gunmen.

It was gathered that the suspected kidnappers barricaded the road and opened fire in an attempt to intercept and abduct the occupants of a Toyota Sienna vehicle.

The vehicle, driven by Nana Aghogho, 51 years, was said to be conveying fingerling fish from Lagos State to Akwa Ibom State with two passengers, Oseghale Mathias, 40 and John Edobor, 24, on board.

The spokesperson of the command, Moses Yamu, in a statement, said the police responded to a distress call on a kidnapping attempt and engaged the hoodlums in a fierce exchange of fire, forcing them to flee into the nearby bush and rescued them unhurt.

He added that the police also rescued a female victim, Elohor Osifoh, who was kidnapped on September 10, 2025, after days of a relentless bush combing rescue operation.

He commended the bravery and prompt response of the operatives in foiling the kidnapping attempt and rescuing the victim.
