A suspected highway robber has been killed by men of the Ogun State Police Command at Fidiwo area of Lagos/Ibadan expressway.

The command’s spokesman, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said the incident happened at the weekend following a distress call received by the police at Isara Divisional headquarters that hoodlums operating on motorcycles had blocked the expressway and were dispossessing commuters of their belongings.

“The DPO Isara Division, CSP Yussuf Taiwo, who led his men to the scene, reported that on sighting the policemen, they opened fire on them and the police retaliated. At the end of the gun duel, one of the robbers was shot dead while others escaped with gunshot wounds.

“Recovered from him was a cut to size locally made pistol while the two Bajaj motorcycles they used for the operation were also recovered,” he said.

Oyeyemi added that the state’s commissioner of police, Ahmed Iliyasu, had directed that the escaped members of the gang be hunted down and brought to justice.
