Police hunt for gang members as court remands leader

The police have launched a manhunt for six criminals after arresting their leader, one Basiru Bara’u alias Gojen-Mallam, aged 25 years of Tudun Wada area, Funtua, Katsina State.

Gojen Malam and his gang have been on police radar for long and were wanted in connection with three murder cases.

Those wanted are Abdulmalik Muktar, Malam Audu, Audu Damisa, Usman Lafika, Dan Junior and Dan Abdul.

A police prosecuting officer, Sani Ado told, a senior magistrate’s court where Gojen Malam was arraigned that investigation and the manhunt were ongoing and pleaded with the court for more time.

Gojen Malam, who was arraigned alongside the six others still at large, was accused of criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide, contrary to Section 221 of penal code law.

The magistrate, Abdulkareem Umar, directed that the suspected gang leader be remanded in prison custody till November 27 when the case is expected to come up again for mention.

The spokesman of Katsina State Police Command, DSP Gambo Isah, in a statement said on 30/07/2014 the suspect was alleged to have attacked one Aliyu Abubakar, 22, with dangerous weapon and hacked him to death.
