Police in Kano state have recovered counterfeit Dettol products worth N11, 189,500 million, the police commissioner, Alhaji Musa Muhammad Katsina has said.
Katsina said six suspected retailers and three dealers of the faked products were under police custody, adding that they were arrested together with products in the Sabon-Gari market area of the state.
The commissioner who spoke through the Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Magaji Musa Majia, said the perpetrators were apprehended after the Police’s Ambush squad raided the market following a tip-off.
The suspects are Gambo Musa of Kwana Hudu Quarters in the state, who was arrested with 1,200 cartons of the counterfeit products, Alasan Abdullahi arrested with four cartons and one Ifeanyi Ibube, 41, who was found with 80 cartons of unregistered Dettol liquid disinfectant.
Speaking to newsmen, Gambo Musa, who the police had arrested severally for selling counterfeit injection water, said the impounded products were not fake.
He said: “The products that we sell are from Pakistan. Pakistan products are not registered with NAFDAC number and they are authentic.
Though I was arrested for selling counterfeit products before, I am quite sure that these products are original and not counterfeit.”
