Police in Bauchi arrest robbery suspects, recover stolen vehicle

The police in Bauchi State have arrested four suspected armed robbers and 60 Sara-Suka thugs across the state.

The suspects were paraded, yesterday, at the police headquarters in Bauchi.

The spokesman of the command, DSP Kamal Datti Abubakar, said the robbery suspects were arrested on June 2 by the command’s tactical team of Operation Puff Adder.

“Acting on credible intelligence, the police arrested the duo of Audu Daniel, 29, of Gboko LGA, Benue State and John Samuel, 22, of Orlu LGA, Imo State, at Kofar Gombe area of Bauchi metropolis and recovered one motor vehicle, Lexus Jeep RX 350, model 2007, ash in colour, with chassis number 2T2GK31U37100 and registration number EPE 734 EU valued at N4 million.

“The suspects freely confessed to have robbed the vehicle along with three others on the same date at about 0900hrs from a woman at Forest, along Abuja-Jos highway”, the police spokesman said.

He said after a search of the vehicle, the police team recovered an Infinix phone belonging to the victim.

He added that a photocopy of the vehicle invoice bearing the name of Linda Onyinye Anakwe of No. 51 Rukuba Jos, Plateau State, a pair of clothes, seven necklaces and other documents were also recovered from the suspects.

He said two more suspects, Ikenna Okoronkwo of Jenta Adamu, Jos, Plateau State and Solomon Ijika of Federal Low-cost, were arrested on June 3.

Abubakar said in another raid, 60 Sara-Suka thugs were arrested while two knives, 11 machetes and eight sachets of assorted illicit drugs were recovered from the suspects.

He said the raid was carried out through the combined efforts of the command’s Operation Puff Adder team, Rapid Response Squad (RRS) team, Anti Kidnapping Unit (AKU), State Intelligence Bureau (SIB), ‘A’ Division and volunteer members in identified criminal hotspots in Bauchi metropolis between June 2 and 4, 2019.

He said all the suspects would soon be charged to court.
