Police insist hoodlums killed Ibadan poly student

The police on Tuesday insisted that a National Diploma (ND) II student of Banking and Finance of the Ibadan Polytechnic, Husma Akinola Babatunde, was shot dead by hoodlums and not a police officer as being circulated on social media.

It was reported on social media that the deceased was killed by a police officer while he was attempting to evade arrest on Sunday night at a popular mall on Ring Road, Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

The state police said the Mr Babatunde was killed by hoodlums before the arrival of the police team.

The police spokesman in the state, Adewale Osifeso, said, “To set the record straight, on the strength of a distress call received at about 2100hrs on Sunday, 25th of July, 2021, from Palms Mall, Ring Road, Ibadan, that some suspected cultists/hoodlums invaded the building’s premises in pursuit of their target who was shot and later confirmed dead at the hospital. In swift response, several police patrol teams were immediately drafted to the scene but the perpetrators escaped before our arrival.”
