Inspector Aminu Ibrahim, serving with the Kano state command has allegedly died from an accidental gunshot while on duty in Hotoro area of Kano.
Daily Trust gathered that the incident occurred on Saturday at about 5:40am when the officer, attached to Hotoro Division, reportedly entered a toilet within the premises of a firm in Hotoro.
Sources said that Ibrahim accidentally shot himself in the stomach while squatting, with his loaded AK-47 rifle hanging around his neck.
“The rifle, with registration number GT 4177, was recovered cocked and unsafe, alongside an empty shell. Twenty-nine rounds of ammunition were accounted for against the 30 earlier issued to him,” a source familiar with the incident said.

The victim was rushed to the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital where he was confirmed dead by a doctor on duty. His corpse has been deposited at the hospital’s mortuary for autopsy.
When contacted, the spokesperson of the Kano State police command, Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa explained that the command is still investigating the incident and will make findings public soon.
