The police in Zaria have arrested one of the eight-member armed robbery syndicate along Zaria-Kaduna express road.

Confirming the incident to Daily Trust yesterday, the Area Commander incharge of Zaria, Abdullahi Ibrahim, said the suspect was shot and arrested after an exchange of gunfire.

He gave his name as Umar Sani, saying he was fully dressed in Nigerian Army’s uniform as at the time of the arrest.

A police source  said the police received report that the armed men had blocked the Zaria-Kaduna express road at about 3am of Monday and that they mobilised to the scene.

The source added, “As we approached they opened fire on us. We overpowered them with superior gunfire. The arrested suspect told us that they were invited from Taraba State to Zaria to operate and that they stayed at Mararaban Jos, a suburb along the Zaria-Kaduna express road. 

“We suspect that the remaining gang members ran away with gun injuries. This is why we call on the public, especially owners of health facilities, to report to the police anyone they see with gunshot injury,” he said.
