Police in Zamfara State have arrested a suspected gun runner and recovered 800 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition concealed in a motorcycle’s fuel tank.
In a statement, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Yazid Abubakar, said the suspect, Mannir Adam, 25, of Yankuzo village in Tsafe Local Government Area, was arrested on March 10, 2026, at about 7:50 p.m. along the Gusau–Funtua federal highway at the Yankara checkpoint.
He said police operatives on routine patrol intercepted the suspect while riding a red Boxer motorcycle and conducted a thorough search, which led to the discovery of the ammunition hidden in the fuel tank.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect was travelling from Unguwar Bawa in Saminaka LGA of Kaduna State to Kucheri village in Tsafe LGA of Zamfara State.
Abubakar said the suspect and the recovered ammunition have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.
