The police in Zaria yesterday arrested fake ‘ampiclox’ drugs worth about N5 million at the Sabon Gari market of the city.

As at the time of filing this report, the owners of the drugs had not been arrested as they were said to have abandoned the consignment and taken to their heels.

When contacted, the police Area Commander in Zaria, Alhaji Abdullahi Ibrahim, said he will brief the press after investigation.

However, a police source said they stormed the market upon receipt of intelligence from “some good Samaritans”.

The source said some of the traders at the market raised the alarm that led to the arrest, as they were disturbed by the rising sale of fake drugs in the market.

When contacted, the chairman of Sabon Gari Market Association, Alhaji Ibrahim Mai Gold, said the “disturbing trend” made the leadership of the market to put measures that would bring the menace to an end. 

He called on traders to continue to expose those that engaged in illicit practices.
