The Edo State Police Command has announced a comprehensive investigation into a viral video showing senior students of Igbinedion Education Centre bullying and assaulting a junior student.

In the widely circulated footage, senior students of the Benin City-based institution are seen whipping a junior student, who is lying on the ground, with what appears to be a belt.

In the background of the video, a voice can be heard pleading with the attackers to spare the victim. However, the assault continues as the junior student remains on the ground, desperately attempting to shield himself with his hands.

The violence escalated when another older student took over the beating, kicking the victim and jumping on his ribs while he remained defenseless on the floor.

In a statement issued by the command’s spokesperson, SP Eno-Obong Ituen, it was confirmed that the State Commissioner of Police has ordered officers to visit the school and commence a detailed inquiry into the matter.

The spokesperson noted that while the school has already expelled the students involved as part of its internal disciplinary measures, the police command is proceeding with a full criminal investigation.

She emphasized that those involved in the bullying will be arrested and held accountable in accordance with the law, taking into account their respective ages and the provisions of the relevant statutes.
