The Lagos State Police Command has launched an investigation into a suspect’s confession regarding land-related homicide.
The suspect, identified as Omotayo Iwajomo, allegedly made the confession during questioning.
Aside from land-related killings, the suspect who is currently being detained at the Homicide Section of the Lagos State Criminal Investigations Department (SCID), Panti Street Yaba, also admitted to his involvement in several robberies.
The police have not released further details about the case, citing the ongoing investigation. However, sources indicate that the confession may be linked to a series of land disputes in the Lagos area.
Local residents have expressed concern over the escalating violence related to land grabbing in the Ikorodu area of the state. Community leaders are urging authorities to take swift action to address the issue and ensure the safety of villagers.
Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, who confirmed the arrest, stated that the suspect was nabbed following a coordinated and intelligence-led raid by detectives from SCID.
Hundeyin disclosed that items found in the suspect’s possession include an AK-49 assault rifle along with several rounds of ammunition.
“On 15th July 2025, the detectives acting on intelligence stormed a criminal hideout in the Ajegunle area of Ikorodu.
“During the operation, the team arrested the suspect in possession of one AK-49 assault rifle, three magazines, fifteen rounds of 7.62x39mm ammunition, three rounds of 9mm (K2) ammunition, and two rounds of 7.62x51mm ammunition.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect had been actively involved in armed robbery and land-grabbing activities across various parts of Lagos State, using the recovered firearm to perpetrate his crimes.
“Further investigations revealed that the suspect has accomplices. Efforts are being intensified to apprehend other members of the criminal syndicate and to charge all involved to court at the conclusion of the investigation, to face the full weight of the law.
“The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Olohundare Jimoh, commends the State Criminal Investigation Department for their professionalism and swift action. He reiterated the Command’s unwavering commitment to proactive, intelligence-led policing and warned criminal elements that Lagos will remain a hostile environment for unlawful activities,” he added.
