The Edo State Police Command has launched an investigation into an alleged tampering with a corpse and theft of its parts at Akugbe Mortuary on Upper Sakponba Road in Benin City.

The command’s spokesperson, ASP Eno Ikoedem, who disclosed this in a statement, said the Commissioner of Police (CP), Monday Agbonika, directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for thorough, professional and discreet investigation to unravel the truth.

She said no stone would be left unturned in uncovering the truth and ensuring that anyone found culpable was brought to justice in accordance with the law.

Recall that on December 12, 2025, one Marvelous Odeh and others went to the Akugbe Mortuary to claim the corpse of one late Uyi Enogieru for burial but discovered that the corpse had been unlawfully interfered with and some body parts were missing, prompting a report to the police.
