Police in Katsina has shot dead a suspected armed robber during a gun duel just as three others were arrested for kidnapping and bank robbery.

The spokesman for the command DSP Gambo Isah said the Command on September 11 succeeded in foiling an armed robbery attack along the road, between Danja to Tandama village in Danja LGA of Katsina state.

“Two patrol teams drafted to the scene responded timely and engaged the hoodlums in a gun duel. The team succeeded in subduing the armed robbers by gunning down one of  them and his locally made fabricated rifle recovered with two 7.62mm (AK47) live ammunition”, he said.

The rest of the robbers took to their heels and escaped into the bush, he said, adding that “Some of them are believed to have sustained gun shots during the encounter with the police men. The sum of N16,625 was recovered from the body during search. Investigation is ongoing with a view to arrest other members of the syndicate.”

In a related development, two others suspects, Bala Lawal, 30 and Lawal Kabiru, 20  both of Wawar-Kaza village, Matazu LGA of Katsina state were arrested by the police while on patrol at Juno forest, Kankara.

“Five of them were intercepted riding on two Bajaj Boxer motorcycles heading to the forest and on sighting the team, they abandoned the motorcycles and took to their heels but the police got hold of the two and recovered one AK47 rifle with Breach No. AV442713 with three 7.62mm ammunition, one pair of military camouflage uniform, Six GSM handsets and three sticks, four knives, three cutlass.

“Also arrested are the duo of Friday Like, 28 old of Asaba Delta state and ThankGod Wisdom, 26, of Ihiala in Anambara State who specializes in breaking motor vehicles of unsuspecting bank customers who either have visited for transaction”, the statement said.
