One suspected bandit was killed over the weekend during a gun duel with police operatives in the Ukum area of Benue State.

The killing followed a foiled robbery attack along the Kendev–Zaki Biam road in the Sankera axis.

Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Udeme Edet, stated that the incident happened at 1:43 pm on Friday.

Edet noted that the police received credible intelligence about an ongoing robbery by suspected bandits and quickly mobilized patrol and tactical teams to the scene.

She added that the officers ambushed the criminals, leading to a fierce exchange of gunfire.

“One of the suspects, identified as Awase Ankyunyo, popularly known as Abi Doka, was fatally shot.

‘’He was confirmed dead on arrival at the hospital. An AK-47 rifle loaded with live ammunition was recovered from the scene, while other gang members fled with bullet wounds toward the Chito axis,” the PPRO stated.
