Operatives of the Edo State Police Command have rescued 10 students abducted by gunmen suspected to be kidnappers in the state.
One of the kidnappers was killed during a gun battle with the police during the rescue operation, while others escaped with injuries.
Daily Trust reports that the students were kidnapped on April 16, 2025, on their way to Babcock University for the Annual GYC Africa Conference.
The command’s spokesman, CDP Moses Yamu, who confirmed the rescue, said a police officer sustained injury during the operation.

He said on receiving the report of the kidnapping, the state Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, deployed tactical teams alongside vigilantes and hunters into the bushes for possible rescue of the victims and the arrest of the suspects.
He said during the operation, the security team engaged in a gun duel with the kidnappers and in the process, one of the kidnappers was neutralised, while others escaped with bullet wounds.
“The operatives were cautious to avoid collateral damage as the kidnappers used the victims as human shields,” he added
