Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have killed three suspected kidnappers during a gun battle.
The command’s spokesperson, Edafe Bright, said the suspected kidnappers engaged the police at Ewhereni junction, Ughelli, leading to the death of the suspects
He said the operatives, who were on covert patrol along Ughelli-Patani road, flagged down an approaching shuttle bus by Ewhereni junction, but upon sighting the operatives, the occupants of the vehicle opened fire in a bid to escape.
He said the police responded, leading to an intense exchange of gunfire, adding that three of the suspects sustained serious gunshot injuries while others escaped.
He said the injured suspects were taken to the hospital, where they died while receiving treatment.
Edafe said one AK-47 rifle loaded with 18 rounds of live ammunition was recovered from them.
