Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have killed four suspects during a gun battle in Ughelli North Local Government Area of the state.

The police also disclosed that the command arrested another four suspects over alleged murder and rape of an 18-year-old lady in the state. The suspects – Peter Ejenekevwe 31, Clever David 35, Chukwuemeka Gospel Onuchukwu, 29 and Onome Collins 32, were alleged to have murdered one Anthony Igoroko Omowho and his 18-year-old sister-in-law.

The command’s spokesperson, Bright Edafe, said following intelligence, the police stormed a criminal hideout at the Panama Layout, Ughelli, identified as the base of a violent syndicate responsible for multiple heinous crimes, and arrested the suspects.

He said during interrogation, the suspects confessed to the robbery and murder of Mr Anthony Igoroko at Ekredjebor on 11th November 2025, adding that the suspect, after robbing the victim and his wife, trailed him to Saint Nicholas Hospital, and stabbed him to death after also robbing nurses on duty.

They equally confessed to robbing a POS operator and her husband the same day, inflicting injuries and raping the victim’s 18-year-old sister-in-law.

 

He listed the items recovered from the suspects to include, two locally made long guns, twenty-three live cartridges, three locally made short guns, and two Lexus 350 Jeep keys.

 

Edafe said the police, while returning from the bush where they recovered the items, were ambushed by suspected gang members, adding that during the exchange of fire, four suspects sustained injuries and were confirmed dead at General Hospital.

 

He added that one police officer sustained injuries during the encounter.
