The Plateau State Police Command yesterday said it killed four suspected armed robbers and kidnappers in two different operations in the state.
The command explained that three suspected armed robbers were killed in a gun duel around Lamingo Gwafan community of Jos North Local Government Area of the state while a combined team of policemen, vigilante and hunters had engaged a group of kidnappers in another gun duel and killed one in Shimankar village of Shendam LGA of the state.
The state police commissioner, Issac Akinmoyede, while parading the corpses of the suspects at the state police command also disclosed that two AK 47 rifles containing three live ammunition, 21 empty shells of live ammunition, four handsets and two jack knives were recovered from the suspects.
He said the success recorded followed the information received “from a good samaritan that armed robbers were operating at Lamingo Gwafan Housing Estate along Golf Club, Jos, by operatives of Operation Puff Adder/Anti-Kidnapping Unit (AKU), on 11/02/2020 at about 0015hrs.
“Acting on the tip off, the operatives raced to the scene of the incident. On sighting the police, the marauders engaged them in a gun duel but fortunately, three of the hoodlums were shot dead while others took to their heels.”
In Shimankar, the commissioner said the incident occurred on February 11, “at about 0700hrs when one Rev. Ganko Istafanius ‘m’ of COCIN RCC Shimankar village in Shemdam LGA reported at the Shandam Divisional Police Headquarters that on the same date at about 0530hrs, unknown gunmen entered his residence and kidnapped his son, one Godsave Damen and two others namely; Henry Zwansat Sati and Auwalu Longtoe of the same address to an unknown destination.
“On receipt of the information, a combined team of policemen, vigilante and hunters were immediately mobilized to the scene and engaged the hoodlums. In the process, one of the kidnappers was shot dead while others took to their heels.
The commissioner enjoined the people of the state to remain vigilant, security conscious and continue to maintain the strong synergy with the police and other security agencies through volunteering of credible information that would lead to the arrest of criminal elements on the Plateau.
