Police kill 5 kidnappers, rescue victim

The operatives of Edo State Police Command have killed five kidnappers in a gun battle.

It was gathered that the police also rescued one kidnapped person, Mr. Innocent Achebe, 38,  unhurt  during the operation on August 14 in Ughoshi-Afe bush, in Ibillo, Akoko-Edo :GA of the state.

The command’s spokesman, Chidi Nwanbuzor, confirmed the incident, saying the suspected kidnappers were killed in a gun battle.

He said the  police, in collaboration with vigilantes and hunters, on receipt of information on the kidnapping operation,  mobilised  to the scene to rescue the kidnapped victim. 

He said on sighting the security team, the kidnappers opened fire and in the ensuing shootout,  five of the kidnappers were  fatally injured and later confirmed dead.

“One kidnap victim, Innocent Achebe, 38, who was rescued unhurt has been re-united with his family,” he said.

The spokesman said two locally made pistols, two cartridges and some charms were recovered from them.

According to him, the state Commissioner of Police, CP Abutu Yaro, while commending the operatives, promised  to work with relevant stakeholders and law-abiding citizens to ensure a safe state.
