The police in Katsina  State yesterday said a suspected bandit was killed by operatives during a gun duel.

The spokesman of the state police command, SP Gambo Isah, said the deceased was part of the bandits, who in their numbers, armed with sophisticated weapons including AK 47 rifles, attacked Karo and Garangamawa villages, Dutsinma LGA of the state at about 02:00hrs on Thursday.

“The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) Dutsinma, swiftly led a team of Operation Puff Adder and vigilante groups to Unguwar Bara and layed ambush for the bandits. Fortunately, the team succeeded and engaged the hoodlums in a gun duel as a result of which one of the bandits (yet to be identified) was gunned down”

“Sixty cows and 80 sheep were recovered. As search party is still combing the area with a view to arresting the bandits, who fled with gun shot wound, and also to recover their operational weapons”, he added.
