Operatives of the Edo State Police Command have neutralised a suspected kidnapper during a gun battle, while three others escaped with bullet wounds.
The suspect was killed at the Onogholọ and Akwocha forests during an operation carried out by the police in collaboration with the Edo State Security Corps in Illushi, Esan South East Local Government Area of the state.
The Command’s spokesperson, Eno Ikoedem, said the suspect was neutralised during a bush-combing operation in the forests.
She said four suspected kidnappers opened fire on the advancing security team during the operation but were subdued by the superior firepower of the operatives.
According to her, one of the suspects was neutralised during the gun duel, while three others escaped into the forest with gunshot wounds.
She added that the operatives recovered one single-barrel shotgun, one black facial mask, two live cartridges and two expended cartridges from the scene.
She said the bush-combing operation is ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects.
