Operatives of the Edo State Police Command have killed a suspected kidnapper during a gun battle with the police in Edo state.

It was gathered that the incident happened in Ughiole forest in Etsako West Local Government of the state on Sunday.

Daily Trust learnt that the police were on a routine ambush patrol operation along the pipeline axis when the suspected kidnappers engaged them in a gun battle.

The state’s command spokesperson, SP Chidi Nwanbuzor, confirmed the incident.

He said “On September 11, the operatives led by the DPO of Agbede division while on routine ambush operation along the pipeline axis of Ughiole forest in Etsako West Local Government, suddenly encountered some hoodlums suspected to be kidnappers emerging from the forest. ”

He said the hoodlums on sighting the police engaged them in a gun duel, in the process, one of them was killed while trying to escape into the forest.

SP Nwanbuzor said other suspects escaped into the forest with various degrees of gunshot wounds while bushing combing is ongoing to arrest the fleeing gang members.

The PPRO noted that one locally-made gun, amulets, charms, and a cash sum of N240,000.00 were recovered from the dead suspected kidnapper.
