The Edo State Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, has announced that the police command is actively pursuing the kidnappers of three seminarians who were abducted from the Immaculate Conception Minor Seminary in Ivianokpodi-Agenebode.

The goal, he said, is to rescue the victims unharmed.

In July 2025, suspected kidnappers attacked the seminary, killing a Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) officer before abducting the three seminarians.

The commissioner’s statement comes in response to a viral video showing the abducted seminarians pleading with the public to help raise the ransom demanded by their captors.

Agbonika said that as part of the effort to secure the release of the seminarians, the police command has established a tactical division in the Ivieukwa community to boost security and intelligence gathering in the area.

He added that the command is also working closely with experts and other security agencies, using advanced technical intelligence and coordinated operations to ensure the safe return of the boys.

He acknowledged being aware of the viral video and reassured the public that the police are leaving no stone unturned in their efforts to bring the seminarians back safely.

The commissioner reiterated the police force’s commitment to protecting lives and property, urging residents to remain calm and support the ongoing efforts to secure the boys’ safe return
