The Police in Benue State have launched a manhunt for the killers of the Chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) in the state, Ardo Rabo Mohammed, following his fatal attack by unidentified gunmen in Otukpo.

The command said tactical and intelligence teams have been deployed to track down those behind the killing, which occurred on Friday afternoon along the Okwudu-Ogoli road while the MACBAN Chairman and his associate, Yakubu Isah, were returning from a security meeting in Ohimini LGA.

In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Udeme Edet, the Commissioner of Police, CP Cletus Nwadiogbu, described the attack as a “senseless and criminal act” capable of undermining the peace and security efforts across Benue State.

The police commissioner condemned the killings and expressed condolences to the families of the victims, assuring residents that the command would leave no stone unturned in ensuring those responsible are arrested and prosecuted.

He urged members of the public to remain calm, avoid spreading unverified information capable of escalating tensions, and provide credible information that could aid ongoing investigations.

Similarly, Governor Hyacinth Alia condemned the killing of the MACBAN Chairman, identified by the state government as Alhaji Ardo Risku, describing the incident as a direct attempt to undermine the relative peace and reconciliation efforts being recorded across the state.

The governor ordered security agencies to immediately launch a thorough and transparent investigation into the killings, directing them to fish out the perpetrators and bring them to justice without delay.

Alia also directed security agencies to strengthen protection for community leaders involved in peace-building and security engagements across the state.

While condoling with the bereaved families and the MACBAN community, the governor urged residents to remain peaceful and law-abiding, warning against actions capable of disrupting the fragile peace in the state.

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to sustaining peace and ensuring Benue remains safe for all residents.
