Police nab 13 naira note vendors

The Police in Rivers State in collaboration with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) have arrested 13 suspects over illicit sale of naira notes.

The operation, according to the state Commissioner of Police, Zaki Ahmed, was carried out in line with the CBN Act, sections 20 and 21.

Represented by the state police spokesman, Nnamdi Omoni, Ahmed said the operation was aimed at forestalling illicit sale of naira notes and to clampdown on suspected illegal naira vendors. 

He said the suspects were all women who were arrested in different parts of Port Harcourt. He noted that they are currently held at the State CID and helping the police in their investigation. 

He said, at the end of investigation, those found culpable would face justice. 

“On the whole, a total of N2.9 million consisting of various denominations were recovered from the suspects,” he said.
