Police nab 16 over attempted murder, robbery

The police in Gombe State have paraded 16 suspects over various crimes ranging from motorcycle theft, armed robbery and attempt to commit culpable homicide.

A statement issued by the Commissioner of Police, Muhammad Garba Mukaddas, said seven of the suspects were members of a syndicate that specialized in stealing, snatching, receiving and selling stolen motorcycles in Gombe metropolis and environs.

Rabiu Ibrahim, 37, Haru Majidadi, 25, Mohammed Hassan, 28, aka Mamamlo, Adamu Musa, 31, Mohammed Isa, 39, Abdullahi Ibrahim, 29 alias Kaske and Kabiru Mohammed were said to have met in prison while serving various jail terms and hatched the plan to form a syndicate after their prison terms to continue with their criminalities.

In another development, the police at the Balanga division on December 10 arrested one Lawan Bello, 22, over a case of criminal conspiracy and robbery. He was alleged to have conspired with one Maibokolo, now at large, to attack a commercial motorcyclist and snatched his motorcycle after they inflicted severe injuries on him.

Two other suspects, Mohammed Salidu, 22 aka Danmalam and Abdulaziz Mohammed, 19 aka Ateta, were arrested by Akko Division over a case of criminal conspiracy and attempt to commit culpable. They were alleged to have attacked and injured one Musa Abubakar of Kumo town of Akko LGA.

The commissioner of police added that the police at the Dukku division arrested a 16-year-old Usman Gidado and Kamisu Bello, 20, in a case of criminal conspiracy and attempt to commit culpable homicide.

The suspects were alleged to conspire with one Goje, still at large, armed themselves with weapons and attacked one Ibrahim Bello Baka in Dukku town where they destroyed his properties and attempted to kill him.

Also, the Gona division has arrested one Yunusa Magaji, 24, Suleiman Abubakar, 24 and Abdullahi Aliyu, 20, all of Gombe metropolis over alleged criminal conspiracy and robbery.

They allegedly conspired and entered into the house of one Usman Musa of Dubai quarters, Gombe and robbed him of some amount of foreign currency.

Mukaddas said all the suspects have confessed to their crimes and would soon be charged to court.
