The police in Lagos State have arrested four persons who allegedly operate an illegal Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO).

 Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Imohimi Edgal, who paraded the suspects, said they are members of a syndicate which used persons with debilitating illnesses to raise funds for their treatment only to abandon them. He said the suspects were arrested in a hotel at Ajangbadi area. 

 Edgal said a female victim who has been with the organisation was allegedly abused sexually for three years, stressing that the victim was discovered to be pregnant while the growth on her chin which the organisation promised to treat was still there. 

Edgal said: “Information on the illegal activities of the unregistered NGO reached the command yesterday (Sunday).

“However, painstaking search for the group heads led to the arrest of one of the leaders, Paul Samuel and other associates namely, Chukwuma Igbokwe, 24, of No. 12, Olorepe, Egbeda, Lagos; Ofiga Ayuba, 18, of Vendekia village, Benue State; and Bright Edet, 32, of no fixed address.”
